Guidance of Posatcard Museum
This is a museum of the postcards owned by Time Roman. Domestic and overseas postcards from the latter period of Meiji era to Taisho and the biginning of Showa are exhibited. We hold special exhibitions regularly. In time of "Japonism", after the use of private postcards was admitted in 1900, a lot of unique designed postcards were made and postcard culture began to bloom. Postcard specialty stores were built in various parts of Japan and it was at the prosperous time of postcards that many exchange meetings, exhibition and contests were held. Influenced by Japanese traditional "Ukiyo-e pictures",birds-and-beasts caricature and writings, they became small works of art of Japanese own such as hand-colored and wood engraving with exquisite skill. It linked to Taisho Roman. Postcards are witness of history. They never speak but tell us scenery, manners and customsand culture. When we look at them, we go back to the good old days and discover new things by studying the past. ![]() ![]()
